We express our thoughts and emotions through speaking, and body/face movements. We receive other persons' expressions through hearing, seeing, and feeling to understand their intentions, often accompanied with various kinds of emotions. That is daily human communication. This all seems quite easy. In fact, these can hardly be achieved without precise sensory mechanisms and highly complex and sophisticated information processing in the brain. Any problem in such processes could seriously disrupt the communication. Sensory Resonance Research Group aims at elucidating the computational principles and neural mechanisms of sensory information and emotion processing by integrating various approaches including psychophysics, neurophysiology, and computational modeling. We believe that a profound understanding of human mechanisms is crucial for developing technologies that promote true heart-to-heart communication.
