What's new

Greeting from the Managing Director

NTT Communication Science Laboratories were established 26 years ago, and charged with its mission of carrying out basic research in the field of information science. We have achieved great things over this past quarter century, and are already beginning to see the work of our lab finding its way into the real world. Yet we would emphasize that the mission of basic research is to start at the very beginning, at the very crack of dawn, and involves a certain amount of wandering about in pursuit of new territories to conquer.

From this perspective, NTT Communication Science Laboratories is committed to two broad categories of research. First is research that we believe has potential to change the world. These are technologies that in five or ten years of accumulating knowledge and expertise will bear fruit, and put us in a very favorable world leadership position. The second category of research is intended to meet the needs of the times. Leveraging our technical expertise and accumulated knowledge, we focus resources on challenges faced by society right now.

NTT Group recently rolled out a new artificial intelligence (AI) brand, corevo®. We're proud to see corevo® on the market, for this new technology is largely based on basic research from our labs. Open House 2017 will introduce our latest findings and research through lectures and exhibitions, and also provide an opportunity to reexamine the role of information science in showing the way to the future. We look forward to seeing you at the Open House!
