About Me

I am currently a research associate (post-doctoral researcher) in the Learning and Intelligent Systems Group, Innovative Communication Laboratory at the NTT Communication Science Laboratories in Japan.

My PhD research was carried out in the Intelligence, Agents and Multimedia Group, School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom. My supervisors were Professor Nigel Shadbolt and Dr Nicholas Gibbins. My study was generously supported by the R C Lee Centenary Scholarship of Drs Richard Charles and Esther Yewpick Lee Charitable Foundation, Hong Kong.

I obtained my M.Phil degree in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in the Chinese University of Hong Kong. I finished my thesis on fuzzy ontologies under the supervision of Professor Leung Ho Fung. I obtained my B.Eng degree in Information Engineering in the same university from Aug 2001 to Jul 2004. My final year project was finished under the supervision of Professor Calvin Chan in collaboration with Edward Keung.

My PhD research studies how we can understand the implicit qualities and characteristics of the entities found in collaborative tagging systems, such as Delicious, LibraryThing, and CiteULike. In particular, I focus on identifying the social meanings of tags, the expertise or trustworthiness of users, and implicit relations between documents. Relevant papers can be found in the list of my publications.
