About

At the University of Tokyo, I studied force illusions induced by tactile stimulation. I am now conducting research at Communication Science Laboratories, NTT, Inc, on the characteristics and measurement of human tactile perception.

My work has addressed the design of pseudo-force presentation devices using pressure and skin-stretch stimuli to the palm, perceptual evaluation of pseudo-force sensation, and orientation judgments for spatial tactile patterns presented to the fingertip.

Research Topics

Pseudo-force presentation to the palm

Using pressure and skin-stretch stimulation to the palm, I study compact haptic interfaces that evoke sensations of force and motion.

Spatial information processing in touch

Using diagonal-line stimuli and surrounding tactile patterns on the fingertip, I investigate how people process orientation and spatial information through touch.

Touch and pupil responses

I measure pupil responses during tactile stimulation and perceptual tasks to examine changes in perception, attention, and cognitive load.
