Speech production and perception share common brain pathways

- Investigation of the mechanisms of speech communication by speech conversion and brain imaging -

Abstract

Speech communication including speech production and perception is important for our daily life. It is considered that the brain pathways are different between production and perception of speech because their purposes are different. However, it is becoming clear as brain function measurement develops. In this talk, I introduce research to investigate the brain mechanism of speech communication and show the importance of links between speech production and perception. Moreover, a difference between the speech recognition and synthesis techniques and the human brain mechanisms will be discussed.
